Coleman v. Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office

Coleman was first passed over for promotion when twelve (12) male investigators were promoted to sergeant and two (2) to lieutenant over her. At least four of the men who were promoted had less seniority than Coleman. After two (2) rounds of subsequent promotions, Coleman wrote Kaye a memo asking why she had been passed over. When no response was received, Coleman filed a charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Following trial, Coleman’s lawyers filed a post-trial Motion seeking attorney’s fees and costs of $439,000 and prejudgment interest. After various appeals including an appeal to the United States Supreme Court, the County of Monmouth ultimately settled by paying more than $______.
